Mission
Syrena’s mission is to entertain and educate the general public in Polish folk culture through the performance of dances, songs, authentic costumes and traditional customs of Poland.
Overview
The Syrena Polish Folk Dance Ensemble of Milwaukee, WI, was founded in 1975, and is a proud member of the International Institute of Wisconsin. Since 1979, the Ensemble has been under the direction of Ada Dziewanowska, an internationally known Polish folklore authority and dance choreographer and author of a comprehensive work entitled, Polish Folk Dances and Songs: a Step by Step Guide.
Duane Tomka serves as Syrena’s choreographer.
The ensemble most recently made its first return to Poland in 20 years, participating in the World Festival of Polish Folk Dance Ensembles in Rzeszów in the summer of 2019.
