Syrena’s mission is to entertain and educate the general public in Polish folk culture through the performance of dances, songs, authentic costumes and traditional customs of Poland.

The Syrena Polish Folk Dance Ensemble of Milwaukee, WI, was founded in 1975, and is a proud member of the International Institute of Wisconsin. Since 1979, the Ensemble has been under the direction of Ada Dziewanowska, an internationally known Polish folklore authority and dance choreographer and author of a comprehensive work entitled, Polish Folk Dances and Songs: a Step by Step Guide.

Duane Tomka serves as Syrena’s choreographer.

The ensemble most recently made its first return to Poland in ten years, participating in the World Festival of Polish Folk Dance Ensembles in Rzeszów in the summer of 2019.

  1. To whom it may concern,

I am a library intern at UWM Libraries and we are currently on the search for a list of current Polish organizations in the Milwaukee area in and effort to gain more information about a current collection of Milwaukee Polish photographs we have recently required. Do you by chance readily have a list of organizations?

    Thank you for your time,

  2. Excellent show at the Christmas Market last night. Koledy was sung so beautifully…brought tears to my eyes! Thank you Syrena dancers!

Are there any Kaszuba folk dances???
